Die Bundeslade sollte die Steintafeln mit den zehn Geboten beinhalten, die
Moses von Gott auf dem Berg Sinai empfangen hat. Ihr wurden magische
Kräfte gegen das Böse zugesprochen: Sie sollte fähig sein, Berge einzuebnen
und ganze Armeen zu töten. Nach der Zerstörung des Salomonischen
Tempels in Jerusalem Anfang des 6. Jahrhunderts v. Chr. verschwand die
Bundeslade spurlos und ihr Aufenthaltsort gehört zu den großen Rätseln
der Geschichte. Nach der Tradition der Äthiopier wird sie jedoch schon seit
3000 Jahren in einer Kapelle der alten äthiopischen Kaiserstadt Aksum
aufbewahrt. Menelik, der Sohn der Königin von Saba und des Königs
Salomon, soll die originale Truhe der Legende zufolge aus Jerusalem mitgebracht
und in Äthiopien das Herrscherhaus der Salomoniden begründet
haben. So steht es im äthiopischen Nationalepos, dem Kebra Negast („Vom
Ruhm der Könige“) aus dem 14. Jahrhundert. Der Historiker und Bestsellerautor
Dr. Asfa-Wossen Asserate, der selbst aus dem äthiopischen Kaiserhaus
entstammt, wird versuchen, dieses Mysterium aufzuklären.
