entstand Ende 1985 aus der Vorgängerband Die Zucht und zählte in der DDR zu den sog. Anderen Bands. Mit ihren vom eher düsteren Punk kommenden Songs prägte Die Art in musikalischer Hinsicht die Wendezeit mit.
Im Laufe der Jahre entwickelte die Band ein Klangbild, welches sich nur schwer einordnen lässt. Dark Wave, Indiepop, Gitarrenpop oder Post Punk sind gültige Bezeichnungen, die den Kern der Sache doch nie ganz treffen.
Nach einer Bandauflösung im Jahre 2001 begann 2007 eine zweite, bis heute andauernde produktive Phase
