Alemania encargó a Ludwig Mies van der Rohe y Lilly Reich que crearan un espacio para representar a la nación en la Exposición Internacional de Barcelona de 1929. Una vez finalizado el evento, el pabellón se desmanteló, pero nunca se olvidó, sino que se convirtió en un punto de referencia que no solo ha sido profundamente influyente para generaciones de arquitectos y artistas, sino que sentó las bases de la arquitectura moderna.
La extrema pureza de sus formas, su sobriedad, la interacción lineal entre interiores y exteriores, los contrastes precisos en la paleta de materiales elegidos y traídos de los Alpes, Tivoli, Atlas y Tinos se combinan para formar un equilibrio perfecto en esta joya de la arquitectura moderna, cuya reconstrucción (1986) nos permite disfrutarla hoy.
